One key strategy for figuring out your calling in life

Been agonizing over your passion/purpose/calling in life?  Sometimes the most challenging part is having a clue where to even begin.  In my First Ever Video Blog (!!) I’ll share with you a key tip that worked like a charm for me:

(Warning:  I’m a hand-talker.  It’s not a nervous tick.  It’s how I roll.)

And here is my snazzy diagram (breathtaking…I know…):

Things that give me energy

I had to Google an image of a bicycle to complete this diagram.

You wanna know what’s cool about this diagram*?

These are the things I spent time doing when I was trying to figure out my next steps in life, when I was determinedly (yes, it’s a word. I looked it up) developing ways to

create

a

meaningful

livelihood

for myself.

And you know what?  (lean in close, now) FOUR out of the eight things (yes, 50%!) listed above that energize me contribute directly to my current streams of income.  And the remaining four are largely how I spend my free time. Which means I am pretty much always feeling energized by my work and life.  It all holds great meaning for me.

How’s that for results?!

So gorgeous, what I really want to know is:  What gives YOU energy?  What is meaningful/fun/life affirming?  Please comment below!

*diagram not exhaustive.  I ran out of space.

Heather, you know I love this idea! For me the thing that gives me energy is going to the gym. I think you should start a gallery of reader submitted images inspired by yours! Not only to promote ways of creating energy, but also to see who can draw the best bicycle! ;)

This is awesome! I’ve never thought of it in the frame of reference of “energy” before…food for thought! One thing that definitely gives me energy is being around positive people who are living their dreams and love discussing life’s big questions…and I think I can confidently say that I have surrounded myself with those people, whether they are in my online community or my local community.

I’m pretty visual, all day after seeing this I kept picturing bicycles, whistling to music and dancing in my head, and boat travel with interesting people and floating books all over the place :) . This led to me making some different choices in my day albeit small ones but the difference is that I paid attention to these choices, aware of the impact I was creating for myself. I left work at a reasonable time, picked up my fav thai food and had dinner on my patio with my mom and we listened to birds sing. Kind of ridiculous sounding perhaps but it rocked, I can’t recall the last time I chilled in my own home like that, even for a brief time as its usually otherwise occupied.
So rockin’ thank you! By the way, I would have to say that you’re an excellent drawer and very artistic!

Al, Heather, and Vitra…thank you so much for your comments. I love to hear that this stuff is resonating with you. It’s funny sometimes how the simplest of concepts can have the biggest impact over time. High fives all around! xo
